Boundary Conditions and Standard Model Output

GEOS-Chem is capable of providing 3-D dynamic representations of atmospheric composition worldwide. These fields are commonly used as boundary conditions for high-resolution regional models and for regional and global atmospheric chemistry & air-quality studies.

Sensitivity Simulations

Sensitivity simulations consist of a standard and a perturbed model simulation. Interpretation of the differences illuminates the impact of a prescribed change on atmospheric composition.

Adjoint sensitivity simulations

The GEOS-Chem adjoint model operates in a time-inverted manner, providing the sensitivity of a given quantity (often an observation) to processes earlier in time. For example, the GEOS-Chem adjoint can efficiently estimate the factors that contributed to a high pollution event measured at a given location or area.
